Here are some guidelines for using your blogging time. Use this as a starting point, and don’t be afraid to experiment until you find your personal blogging “sweet spot!”

Initial time ratio 50/30/20.

  • 50% of your time creating content
  • 30% of your time on marketing/traffic generation
  • 20% of your time on the technical stuff

So in the 10-hour example I used in the webinar that would work out to:

  • 5 hours of content creation per week.
  • 3 hours of marketing/traffic generation
  • 2 hours of technical stuff

And here’s a formula for how to use your Marketing/Traffic Generation time:

  • Commenting on other blogs – 30% of marketing time (about 1-hour)
  • SEO – 20% of marketing time (about 30-minutes)
  • Social Bookmarking – 20% of marketing time (about 30-minutes)
  • Social networking – 20% of marketing time (about 30-minutes)
  • Other – 10% of marketing time (about 15-minutes, or save it up and spend 1-hour once a month).
