Here are some guidelines for using your blogging time. Use this as a starting point, and don’t be afraid to experiment until you find your personal blogging “sweet spot!”
Initial time ratio 50/30/20.
- 50% of your time creating content
- 30% of your time on marketing/traffic generation
- 20% of your time on the technical stuff
So in the 10-hour example I used in the webinar that would work out to:
- 5 hours of content creation per week.
- 3 hours of marketing/traffic generation
- 2 hours of technical stuff
And here’s a formula for how to use your Marketing/Traffic Generation time:
- Commenting on other blogs – 30% of marketing time (about 1-hour)
- SEO – 20% of marketing time (about 30-minutes)
- Social Bookmarking – 20% of marketing time (about 30-minutes)
- Social networking – 20% of marketing time (about 30-minutes)
- Other – 10% of marketing time (about 15-minutes, or save it up and spend 1-hour once a month).
